Blade Runner 2049

I didn’t even notice the frighteningly long runtime!

I only liked the original Blade Runner movie so-so (although I can objectively see why it’s an amazing film). So, I waited until this came out on Blu-Ray to watch it because the runtime scared me away from seeing it in theatres. Shockingly, I did not get up from my couch a single time for the entire duration of this film – I was rooted to the spot, completely absorbed. The story was complex, rich, and moved at a good pace. It begs all sorts of philosophical and existential questions, but I never felt that I was being intellectually taxed. In particular, the humanization of those characters that are seen as less than human was captivating and moving. Visually the film is stunning and the music was awesome.
