Eleven Eleven

The armistice that went into effect 11:00 Monday morning, 11/11/18, formally ended hostilities in what was called the Great War, but those who found themselves still deployed on the battlefield were in grave danger until the very moment of the cease fire – and sometimes beyond.   This book tells the story of three such soldiers - one British, one American, and one German – whose fate will be determined both by their own decisions and by forces beyond their control.

 

This isn’t one of those books where fictional characters interact with famous historical figures, so you won’t see the protagonists befriending Sergeant York or Field Marshal von Hindenburg.  Instead, this is the story of war at ground level, fought by hungry and exhausted young men in nightmarish conditions.

 

Eleven Eleven is in the same spirit as such gritty and unromantic novels of war as The Red Badge of Courage and All Quiet on the Western Front.
