A story of obsolescence and nostalgia

When the family’s computer breaks down, Pablo must use something called a “typewriter” to complete his report for school.  It had been used by both his grandmother and mother until personal computers were invented.  Pablo becomes fascinated by this machine from the past and tells all his friends about it.

The Lonely Typewriter evokes nostalgia.  Those who grew up using typewriters and had to switch to PCs will enjoy sharing this picture book with children.  Peter Ackerman is also the author of The Lonely Phone Booth.  Both picture books are a great way to introduce young children to the concept of technological change.  These stories celebrate advances in technology, but also gently caution against overreliance on it.
