The Buried Giant

Ishiguro's first novel since Never Let Me Go continues his exploration of memory and its role in our lives. This time the story is set in a Britain fogged over by a spell that erases the memory of its inhabitants less than a generation after the death of King Arthur. This is a slow and seemingly meandering but thought-provoking and strangely beautiful in the style of a classical fairy tale. It’s not true fantasy or traditional fiction but includes quests and their necessary trials for the main characters, including otherworldly creatures and a mysterious spell. Fans of Eowyn Ivey, Patrick Ness and Neil Gaiman should all give this a try.
