Doll Bones

Holly Black is at her brilliant gothic best in this novel. Poppy, Alice, and Zach have been friends for a long time, playing complex games of make believe. Now that they're 12, they're growing up and secretly wonder how long their games will be able to continue.

 

When Zach's father throws away the action figures Zach uses for the Game, a chain of events is set in motion which ultimately results in the three friends setting out on a quest to bury a doll they believe is inhabited by the ghost of a murdered girl.

 

The spooky parts are spine-tingling, but sometimes real life is just as scary. Frightening, moving and believable, I recommend this audiobook for tween listeners and up.
