Smart teen urban fantasy! Silence is the story of Emma, a young woman coming into her abilities to see, hear, and use the energy of the dead—something others would like to see her executed for even before she’d committed any crime. But she is also at the core of a group of high school friends called the “Emery Mafia” and the story is also about the strength and kindness of the group—supporting Emma in her grief over having lost her boyfriend over the summer, or Michael, a high-functioning autistic teen. This is the first in a series and a lot of questions are left unanswered, but I really enjoyed the story—especially the strong relationships between the mafia members.
