Pedal It!

Author Michelle Mulder is a lifelong cyclist. In fact she has never owned a car. In this book she chronicles the history and evolution of bicycles. Contrary to the view of most North Americans, bicycles are tools not toys, and she does a good job of emphasizing this point throughout the book. Whether they’re being used as taxis, ambulances, mobile retail shops, or to haul materials, bicycles play a vital role in many places worldwide. Also given growing environmental and health concerns, she points out that many people in “car-centric” countries are beginning to reconsider the merits of bicycling.

I like this book because I enjoy riding bikes and I hope a new generation will grow-up realizing the positive benefits of cycling.
