Hazel and Jack have been best friends since they were six. They have been there for each other through good times and bad. Hazel looks forward to every moment they spend together, especially when they escape together into the rich worlds of story and imagination. Now that they are 11 the real world keeps trying to crowd in and their relationship begins to change. Something happens that seems to shatter their friendship, but just as quickly Hazel finds herself on a quest to save Jack from the cold-hearted Snow Queen. The quest takes her through a sinister magical woods that defies her expectations. This book is an interesting twist on a modern fairy tale that I found both heartbreaking and beautiful.
