Gerald Morris’s Squire’s Tale series reimagines the legend of King Arthur with a healthy dose of heart and humor. This was one of my favorite series when I was growing up: the narrative was always engaging, the dialogue kept me laughing, and I was fond of all the characters and invested in their journeys. This first book focuses on Terence, a 14-year-old who has things to learn about his own identity that are just as important as his new, adventurous role as squire to Sir Gawain. Terence and the other young protagonists throughout the series are plucky and relatable to older kids and teens. The Squire’s Tale is a great choice for readers who like their fantasy fresh, witty, and entertaining.
