Born of Illusion

Teenaged Anna is a skilled stage magician but a reluctant participant in her mother's popular - though fake - seances.   When Anna meets a handsome and mysterious  man at one such performance, she realizes that her own mostly latent supernatural abilities become heightened whenever the young man is around.  This quickly leads her into a web of intrigue and danger that will ultimately test her abilities as a magician, escapologist, and psychic.

 

The story is set in 1920s New York City and is full of fine period detail.  This would be a good choice for readers who like fast-moving historical fiction with a little romance thrown in that never goes beyond some passionate kissing.
