The Water Dancer

This tale of an enslaved person is a testament to story and memory.

Eloquently written, this tale of Hiram sucked me in. In the midst of reading, I learned some vocabulary, vernacular and a lot of history of Virginia and Philadelphia during the many years when slavery was prevalent. What surprised me most was the parallels I ended up realizing between then and now. Hi's journey of being part of the "Tasked" and beyond is one I won't forget. A great book for Reading Woke, I highly recommend watching Harriet before reading this story.
