The YA thriller you didn't know you needed!

I chose this audiobook on a whim, and I was instantly hooked!

Emily is about to be 16, and is the youngest of six siblings.  Her best friend, Lizzie Porter, who was like another sister to her, died a year ago due to a sudden cancer.  She's still grieving and so is Lizzie's family - so much so that they kidnap Emily and force her to dress, talk, and act like Lizzie.  They dye Emily's hair, force her to wear green contacts, and even paint a beauty mark on her face - just like Lizzie.  Emily attempts to escape, but something keeps convincing her to stay - that Mrs. Porter will go after Emily's family and kill her mother.  She is caught between fear for herself and her family as well as her concern for Chloe, Lizzie's younger sister, who is also a victim to Mrs. Porter's madness.

I did not want to stop listening to this audiobook.  Narrator Caitlin Davies does an amazing job of tapping into the complex emotions of the protagonist, Emily.  The author, Luanne Rice, balances past and present storytelling with such grace and understanding.  She also captures the conflicting emotions of Emily's identity as she feels herself diminish as her Lizzie persona is rewarded.  The thriller of a story starts almost immediately, and leaves the reader wondering "Will Emily escape?  Will she find herself again?  Can there be a happy ending to this haunting thriller?"
