A darkly comic, somewhat feel-good short story about how we humans can do better.

The main character is Fox 8, a fox who learns how to speak and write human by watching a family read bedtime stories together through their window. Fox 8 is so curious about humans; their language, their actions, their values. What Fox 8 ends up observing about humans is not quite the idea he had in his mind based on the sweetness of that nightime ritual he once observed. This short story is written phonetically adding even more to the innocence of Fox 8.

My heart melted, broke, and filled with hope while reading this book. Sometimes what we need is an outside perspective on humanity in order to fuel our quest for goodness. Quote from book: “One day, walking neer one of your Yuman houses, smelling all the interest with snout, I herd, from inside, the most amazing sound. Turns out, what that sound is, was: the Yuman voice, making werds. They sounded grate! They sounded like prety music! I listened to those music werds until the sun went down...” ― George Saunders, Fox 8
