The Marrow Thieves

For indigenous communities, this future dystopia is a continuation of their history.

There's a lot of dystopian teen fiction out there, but I haven't seen much that acknowledges the dystopian past and present of indigenous people under colonialism. Cherie Dimaline's The Marrow Thieves does that work beautifully, creating a harrowing near-future North America after climate collapse, depicting scattered tribal communities in hiding. Grappling with questions of identity, belonging, and family of choice, this is a moving and exciting read.
