Heavens to Murgatroyd! Snagglepuss is back!

One of the perks of working at a library is that I see so many interesting books come across my desk which otherwise may have flown under my radar. I am thrilled that 'Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles' wasn't one to pass me by. This graphic novel instantly caught my attention. (I mean really, just look at its amazing cover.) I love graphic novels but the violent DC/Marvel Universes aren't really my cup of tea. Snagglepuss was right up my alley though- interesting, smart characters and gorgeous, dramatic art. Snagglepuss is a gay playwright in the 1950's, knee deep in the Cold War and McCarthyism. Snagglepuss' story is heartbreaking, realistic, and completely relevant today. I must admit, I have never seen a Snagglepuss cartoon before but this definitely didn't take away from my awe of his character and the story. A few other famous Hanna-Barbera characters popped up too- Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, and Squiddly Diddly. If you're a fan of historical fiction and intelligent, well-written graphic novels, this one's for you. I will definitely be at the top of the "hold list" for the next installment of the Snagglepuss Chronicles.
