Storm's Coming

Back before weather apps and computerized storm tracking, people who needed to forecast the weather had to rely on observation of natural phenomena tied in with a good bit of folklore.   In this story, Sophie dashes around the grounds of Lake Superior’s Split Rock Light to warn her lighthouse-keeping family of a coming storm.  In return, Sophie’s family members point out what they’ve seen and heard in nature to confirm her story.

 

David Geister’s illustrations capture the rugged beauty of Minnesota’s North Shore as well as the human drama of Sophie and her family buttoning up the station for the coming gale.
