Slow to start, this book will quickly toss a soccer ball at your funny bone and then right to your heart.

Britt-Marie was abrasive to me in the first few pages. At sixty-some-years-old, she’s particular (to put it mildly) and socially naïve (to say it nicely), she doesn’t relate well to others, and she’s even less capable of navigating this world on her own. But when I gave her a chance – as the other characters in the story quickly do – I fell in love with her quirks and oddities, and even *gasp* found myself relating to them.

I mean, come on, who isn’t upset when someone tracks mud on their freshly mopped floors?

This book is heartbreaking and endearing at its core, but the pages had me laughing at and with the vividly strange characters and a town that I just couldn’t quite give up on. Pick this one up and read it to the end. You’ll be glad you did.
