Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales

You’ve probably heard the story of Nathan Hale – convicted of spying for the colonials during the American Revolution and sentenced to hang by the British authorities, he delivers his last words from the gallows: “I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country.”

 

Well, in this rollicking series of graphic novels, it’s that Nathan Hale, accompanied by his happily low-browed hangman and a stuffy British officer, who narrates some of the most exciting stories from U.S. history.  In ”One Dead Spy,” Hale tells his own story of bungling espionage in the early days of the revolution.  “Big Bad Ironclad” is about the Monitor vs. Virginia in the Civil War.  The other books in the series take on the Donner Party, Harriet Tubman, and World War I.
