Parade's End

WWI changed the character of a man and his country

Ford Madox Ford’s epic quartet of novels about WWI and the rise of modernity in England has been beautifully adapted by Tom Stoppard for the BBC and HBO in this 5-hour miniseries. Starring an excellent Benedict Cumberbatch as Christopher Tietjens, an upper-class English statistician of stern morals and dour character, Parade’s End is the story of a failed marriage (with a wonderfully complex Rebecca Hall as wife Sylvia Tietjens), an unlikely affair (with Adelaide Clemens playing the sweet, spirited suffragette Valentine Wannop), and a war that changed the character of a country.
