Can an introverted fangirl find her voice IRL?

Cath is an identical twin, sort of; a popular writer of fanfiction; an introvert who would rather stay home and write than go out partying with her sister. Fangirl is the story of her first year at college in Nebraska, and it finds her unmoored by separation from her dad and sister, and by the realization that, as much as she loves fandom, she can’t live in it 24/7.
This is, technically, an “issues” book. Cath is a deeply anxious character, and there are other major characters who struggle with alcohol abuse, bipolar disorder, and a learning disability. But all of Rowell’s characters are so complex that each of their various issues is simply one facet of a whole person. It’s a sweet love story, a nearly-perfect coming of age story, and most of all, the story of an artist finding her own path.
