All CADL branches will be closed for Christmas Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25.
During that time, our other 12 branches remain open. The closest (under 10 miles) are:
Check with Okemos staff if you need help changing your location to pick library materials. You may still drop items at Okemos during the renovation but you won't be able to pick up holds.
If you already have items on hold, log in to your account and under "Account Activity" click on "Holds." Then change the pickup location for reach item.
After a year of planning and fundraising, it’s time for the hammers to hit the nails at Capital Area District Libraries’ Okemos branch.
This renovation project developed as a partnership among Meridian Township, which owns the building that houses the library; Capital Area District Libraries, which provides staff and materials; and the Friends of Okemos Library, which supports library services.
Rather than creating an addition, the plan rearranges the interior to create more public space. Here’s what you’ll see when it’s completed:
Meridian Township pledged $200,000 to fund the project with the stipulation that the Friends group contributed another $100,000. That was accomplished with the generous help of library supporters. CADL will contribute new computers, shelving and other furnishings, plus the cost of moving the collection.
The library will remain open for a few weeks while initial changes to the staff area are made. We will close when it’s time to tackle the public part of the library. A tentative closing date is around the first week in October. A re-opening date depends on what turns up when plumbing and walls are demolished, but is tentatively scheduled for late December or early January.
Our dropbox will stay open during the renovation, and all 12 of the other CADL branches are ready to welcome Okemos patrons.
