Friend of the Devil, by Peter Robinson
Readers unfamiliar with the earlier books in this British police procedural series will have no trouble reading this installment.
Chief Inspector Alan Banks is called in to investigate the rape and murder of a student whose body is found in the Maze, a set of hidden alleyways in Eastvale. Meanwhile, on loan to another precinct, Detective Annie Cabbot is looking into the murder of a quadriplegic woman found sitting in her wheelchair at the top of a cliff with her throat slashed. As Banks and Cabbot pursue their separate investigations, it slowly becomes evident that elements of the two cases overlap. Recommended for fans of Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus series.
