Darkship Thieves by Sarah A. Hoyt
Fast-paced and fun space opera!
The novel starts quickly as Athena Sinistra, the daughter of a powerful Earth ruling council member, wakes up in her cruiser cabin with the knowledge that there is someone in her room. There is no way this can be a benign meeting. She dispatches the intruder and, with everything pointing to mutiny, escapes the ship in a lifepod. She is rescued by Darkship Thief Cat Christopher Klaavil. This is Heinlein style (non-Military) space opera, with an exciting and colorful protagonist (with a few anger issues). Fans of Robert A. Heinlein ( Stranger in a Strange Land), John Scalzi (Old Man’s War), and Hoyt’s fantasy novels (including Ill Met By Moonlight and Draw One in the Dark) should all enjoy this.
