Laurens starts a new series tying together her Cynsters ( Devil's Bride) and the Bastion Club ( The Lady Chosen) along with a new cadre of soldiers on a last mission for crown and country—to expose treachery in the highest levels of government and society. The evidence is gathered and now must make it to the right hands in England. Four men must split up three with decoys and one with the original and make their way back home. So begins Derek Delbourough’s trek from India to London with everything on track until his interfering aunts promise his aid and escort a family friend. But Deliah, proves to be a level-headed Miss and when their first meeting includes her saving him from being shot, her fate becomes tied to Del’s. Strong new characters, to go with her already well-developed Cynster and Bastion Club cast make this a fun addition to her works. I’m looking forward to the next title The Elusive Bride. Recommended for Laurens fans in particular but fans of Christina Dodd's historicals, Liz Carlyle, and Suzanne Enoch as well.
