Emissaries From the Dead by Adam-Troy Castro

Adam-Troy Castro has been on my radar for some time as a shared-worlds writer (with a pair of Spider-Man novels), but his novel Emissaries From the Dead was his first major non-media related novel and he starts off with a strong one. Emissaries is a science fiction mystery introducing Judge Advocate representative Counselor Andrea Cort, an angry but determined investigator brought to an artificial eco-system to investigate two murders among the human community stationed there by the Diplomatic Corps. Her mission: assign blame to anyone but their hosts, the AI Source. But Andrea’s personal mission is to find the truth, whoever may be responsible. This was just named Co-Winner of the Philip K. Dick Award for distinguished science fiction published in paperback original so check it out. Also, look for the sequel Third Claw of God.
