Aladdin's Lamp by John Freely
How Greek science came to Europe through the Islamic world.
The title covers the topic of the book very well. Dr. Freely examines that science, which began in the Hellenistic period of Greece, moved to the Islamic world of Turkey, Constantinople, Moorish Spain and the Arabic world before returning to Europe during the Renaissance.
The author is a U.S. citizen, raised in the U.S. and Ireland, before joining the Navy during the last two years of World War II. He has been teaching physics and the history of science at Bosphorous University in Istanbul.
