The Leisure Seeker by Michael Zadoorian
Elderly Michigan couple relives past trips in their RV when they run away from their controlling children.
Ella Robina is in her eighties and desperately tired. Weakened by
cancer treatments, she endures the monotony and frustration of caring
for a beloved husband in the final stages of Alzheimer’s disease. This
salty, feisty narrator is filled with anger at her situation but also
able to enjoy moments of hilarity and great tenderness.
Defying the wishes of her children and directions of her doctor, Ella kidnaps John and leaves suburban Detroit in their ancient RV on a road trip to California. As they follow the path of earlier family trips, Ella relives their marriage and ponders the promise she made to John when he was first diagnosed.
