The Bucolic Plague by Josh Kilmer-Purcell
A hilarious tale of a city sophisticate who plans to make an easy transition to life on a small farm in the country.
Flush from their Manhattan careers, Josh and his partner Brent fell headfirst in love with the historic Beekman Mansion during their annual apple-picking visit to upstate New York. They decided they could manage two mortgages and found a goat farmer who needed a new location to occupy their barn and help with chores. If you’ve ever planted way too many tomato plants, you can already picture what happened. A huge garden and several remodeling projects later, they are in way over their heads. What sets this tale apart from others is the hilarity of their self-imposed perfectionism. Brent works for Martha Stewart and began blogging about their adventures, which meant every task recorded for their “life on the farm” web fans required Martha-like attention to detail. Their eventual success and founding of a business selling goat-milk products can now be seen on Beekman Farm, a Planet Green documentary TV series.
