The Last Time I Saw You by Elizabeth Berg
Berg has a gift for writing simply but eloquently about human emotion.
High school reunions. Does anything else inspire us with the same desire to lose weight, get a makeover, surprise bullies with our success or yearn over an unfulfilled crush? Berg has a gift for writing simply but eloquently about human emotion. The cast she assembles for their 40th reunion include a quarterback who’s just realized he shouldn’t have left his wife, a trio of “popular” girls still measuring themselves against everyone else, and several people who had few friends in high school but have proved successful in life. These are familiar stereotypes because every high school seems to have this caste system. The author treats them with grace and kindness, allowing everyone to find a form of redemption.
