The American Library Association announced the winners of the 2012 Coretta Scott King Book recognizing an African American author and illustrator of outstanding books for children and young adults at the end of January. Here’s a list of five years’ worth of winners.
Kadir Nelson is the 2012 Author honoree for his work
Heart and Soul: the story of America and African Americans. For our
Downtown Lansing Library's Teen Librarian, Zandra B. the draws for this
book included the Nelson's paintings, "So striking, so bold, so
brilliant" and the story which she describes as "educational and
inspiring" and "a book that can be shared by the entire family."
