Mead Family Collection Photographs

Digitized versions of the nearly 800 different photographs and prints from the Mead Family Collection.

Family Snapshots

Family Snapshots are informal pictures most of which were likely taken by the family.  Where possible the people and places have been identified.  Many were taken in Mason, Michigan and several houses are featured prominently.  Most of the other photographs were taken elsewhere in Michigan or in Kansas.

Formal Prints

Most of the Formal Prints were taken by professional photographers from Atchison, Kansas and Mason, Michigan.  These feature members of the Mead family, their friends, and several images of houses.

Cemetery Snapshots

Cemetery Snapshots contain informal photographs of the Maple Grove Cemetery in Mason, Michigan.  Two different sets of images were taken.  The first set is circa 1902 and was likely taken when Dr. William W. Campbell's headstone was dedicated.  The second set was taken in 1991 upon the death of Mildred J. (Mead) Holmes.

Postcards

The Postcards series contains several unused postcards that were included with the collection.  While some of these do not have an obvious connection to the Mead family others are images of the Mead family or their homes that have been printed on postcards.

 Vacation Snapshots

Some members of the Mead family were able to take vacations to areas in Canada and the United Kingdom.  The images in the Vacation Snapshots section appear to have been taken to document these trips.

Souviner Prints

While on vacation members of the Mead family purchase several souviner prints to suplement their own photographs.  Most of these were taken in Newfoundland, Canada by William McFarlane Notman from the studio of Wm Notman & Son.
