Mead Family Collection Selected Documents: Haslett Park
Minerva Jeanette Mead and her husband George G. Mead were active members of the spiritualist community in Mason at the end of the nineteenth century. The Mead Family collection includes several items which document their involvement. A selection of these have been digitized here and a complete list is available on the collections finding aid (PDF).
Haslett Park Meeting Minutes
Minerva Jeanette Mead was the secretary on September 26, 1888 when the Haslett Park Club Circle was established. This document contains the names of the original members of the circle and the purpose of the club.
Haslett Park Camp Booklet
The complete brochure for the fourteenth annual meeting of the Haslett Park Camp Association. The meeting was held from July 30 to August 31, 1896. The booklet includes information on the camps amenities and speakers as well as advertisements for local businesses.
Oriental Developing Circle
The Oriental Developing Circle was a group brought together with the goal of expanding upon their ability to work as mediums and to connect to the spirit world. Minerva Jeanette Mead was among the members.
Haslett Park Association Bond
To raise money for Haslett Park a series of bonds totaling $25,000 were issued. The Mead family is still in possession of two of these worth seven and five dollars. This may be a sign that the association was in financial troubles and that the Meads were holding on to their bonds to ease the association’s financial burden. The bond with seven dollars has been digitized here.
