The Bryan Hotel Fire

Ruins of the Bryan HotelLocated at 327 Michigan Ave. the Bryan Hotel, owned and operated by Rollo K. Bryan, was destroyed by fire in the early hours of April 29, 1904. The fire began the previous evening at about 9:30pm and spread throughout the building.

Mr. Bryan was described as a minister of sorts and a champion of the underdog. Beds were rented for 25ยข a night with even the basement being employed for accommodations.

Four people died in the blaze that was attributed to carelessness. The Buckeye Harvester Company of which Mr. Rollo was agent previously used the building. The railroad tracks in the photograph are to the New York Central Line.
