Greenleaf

Greenleaf Cycle Company demonstrates the heady days of the early automobile industry. If one was to draw a parallel with the modern day, the automobile industry would be the Internet of its time. In the period, 1900-1910, there were about 965 manufactures of automobiles in the United States, today there are essential three.

The Greenleaf Cycle Company, located at 324-326 N. Washington, H.S. Clawson and S.T. Clawson owners, sold and repaired either bicycles or motorcycles (the type of cycle is not made clear in the city directories). According to the Standard Catalog of American Cars, the Greenleaf Company had a two cylinder engine that was placed under the front seat with the crankshaft crosswise.

At a display of Lansing Manufactures in November of 1902, for the National Grange Convention, the local paper mentions that the Greenleaf Cycle Company was exhibiting two automobiles. No other information was provided.
