number of items
You may have a total of 50 items checked out at one time. Limits on types of items include:
- 10 Videos or DVDs
- 10 Music CDs or cassettes
- 10 Audiobooks
Additional limits may be set for special assignment, high demand items, or special collections as necessary.
Lost or Stolen Library Card
Report a lost or stolen card immediately, by phone or in person; you are responsible for all materials checked out on your library card prior to the date of the report, as well as for all fines and fees on those items. To apply for a replacement card, present a photo ID and proof of current address. There may be a fee to replace the card. To replace a Youth Card, a minor must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with photo ID and proof of address.
Renewals
With your library card number and PIN (Personal Identification Number), you may renew your materials from home via the “Your Account” icon on the Capital Area District Library home page (www.cadl.org).
You may also renew materials in the library or by telephone. Please be prepared to provide your library card number when you renew by telephone.
Most materials may be renewed three times. Some materials including new books, 7-day entertainment and information videos/DVDs, and CD-ROM software may be renewed once. Overdue and 3-day entertainment videos/DVDs, video games and items on hold for another patron may not be renewed.
placing Holds
- Online at www.cadl.org
Begin by setting up an account with your library card number and a Personal Identification Number (PIN). When you find something you'd like to borrow, click on the "Place a hold" icon and follow the prompts to have your item delivered to the CADL location of your choice. For more details, see staff or visit the Online Services guide.
- By Phone
Call any CADL location and request that an item be delivered there for you. You will need to provide your library card number.
- Hold Limits
There is no charge to place items on hold and you may have up to 50 holds at any one time. Items on hold must be picked up by the person who requested them, unless you have filled out a "Hold Pick-up Release" form; see library staff for details.
your library account
View your account any time at www.cadl.org, using your card number and PIN. You may also request account information from library staff by presenting your library card or picture ID. Staff will release this information only to the person named on the account (Library Privacy Act, PA 455, 1982), or to a person named on the Information Release form. See staff for more information or to reset a forgotten PIN.
Overdue fines
If an item is overdue, you will be notified by phone or e-mail. Overdue fines are calculated from the date the item was due until payment is received or until the amount has reached $25, whichever is less. Items more than a month overdue will be considered lost and you will receive a bill for the item (including a processing fee). If the overdue item is returned in good condition, the bill will be removed from your record.
Lost & Damaged Materials
If an item is lost or damaged beyond use, you will be charged the cost of replacing it plus a $5.00 processing fee. If the lost item is returned in good condition before the replacement fee is paid, the fee will be forgiven. Overdue fines will still be assessed.
If you have paid for a lost item but find and return it in good condition, you may receive a refund within 30 days of your payment. Bring the item and your receipt to the library. Processing and overdue fines are not refundable.
For items returned with missing pieces or packaging, a fee will be charged based on the cost to replace the packaging, replace the missing piece(s), or repair the damage. If the item is not repairable and not usable, the item will be considered lost and billed accordingly.
Loss of Borrowing Privileges
If you accumulate $10.00 or more in fees, fines, or charges for lost materials, your borrowing privileges and public computer access will be suspended until your account falls below $10.00. Payments may be made at any CADL location using cash or check. You can also pay with a credit card online at a CADL location or from home by going to www.cadl.org and clicking on the "Your Account" icon.
